Rachel Flowers (born December 21, 1993, in California) is an American multi-instrumentalist, composer, vocalist, and arranger whose work spans progressive rock, jazz fusion, classical music, R&B, and contemporary instrumental music.
Blind since infancy due to complications from premature birth, Flowers demonstrated extraordinary musical ability from a very young age, playing piano by ear before receiving formal training.
She studied classical piano at the Southern California Conservatory of Music and later expanded her musical vocabulary through jazz, progressive rock, and composition.
Among her major influences are Keith Emerson, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Claude Debussy.
Flowers is known for her virtuosity on piano and keyboards, but she also plays flute, guitar, bass, saxophone, Chapman Stick, violin, and several other instruments. Throughout her career she has collaborated or performed with artists such as Dweezil Zappa, Arturo Sandoval, Jordan Rudess, Rick Wakeman, and Burt Bacharach.
A major milestone in her career was the documentary film Hearing Is Believing, which chronicled her life, musicianship, and determination to succeed as a professional artist.
