Luka Bloom (born Barry Moore, 23 May 1955, Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland) is an acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter celebrated for his emotive vocals, percussive acoustic guitar style, and deeply personal lyrics that blend folk, rock, and contemporary influences.
Luka Bloom is the younger brother of renowned Irish folk artist Christy Moore, and his birth name—Barry Moore—was already familiar in the Irish music scene during the 1970s. After releasing music under his own name, he adopted the stage name “Luka Bloom” in the late 1980s, partly to establish an independent artistic identity and partly inspired by Suzanne Vega’s song “Luka” and the word “bloom” (symbolizing growth and renewal, and also an homage to Leopold Bloom of Ulysses).
Bloom’s music blends Irish folk roots with modern sensibilities.
