Karunesh (born Bruno Reuter, 1956, in Cologne, Germany) is a German New Age, ambient, and world-fusion composer and multi-instrumentalist known for meditative music blending electronic textures with global influences.
He showed an early interest in music and played in bands as a teenager, but initially pursued graphic design as a profession. After graduating, he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that became a turning point in his life, prompting him to reconsider his career and spiritual direction.
In 1979 he traveled to India, where he encountered the spiritual teacher Osho and adopted the name Karunesh, derived from Sanskrit meaning “compassion.” This experience deeply influenced his music and philosophy.
Karunesh began releasing albums in the mid-1980s, starting with Sounds of the Heart (1984), which became a notable record in the New Age genre. Over the following decades he developed a distinctive style combining ambient synthesizers, ethnic instruments (especially sitar), world rhythms, and meditative atmospheres.
Since 1992 he has lived on Maui, Hawaii, where he continues composing and recording music that blends spirituality, world music traditions, and relaxation/meditation soundscapes.
